Ductless systems are efficient cooling systems that can leak water occasionally. If you notice water leakage near your unit, it’s advisable to address the issue promptly. Here is a list of typical scenarios that can cause your ductless HVAC system to develop a water leak.
Clogged Drain Line
Water leakage is the most noticeable problem caused by a clogged drain line. The clearances remain submerged in grey water, dust and debris, which results in accumulation in the drain line over time, preventing water from draining properly. This blocks the water flow and compels it to pour into the mentioned unit, resulting in leakage.
Low Refrigerant Levels
There are times when the refrigerant level decreases, resulting in the evaporator coil freezing. Excess water comes out of the drain pan when it melts, causing leakage. If you are low on refrigerant, call a technician to check your system and fill it if required.
Dirty Air Filters
Dirty air filters reduce the air circulation rate so much that the evaporator coil becomes frozen. Similarly, when refrigerant levels are low, ice leads to leaks. Aging or dirty air filters cause this problem; however, you should avoid it by cleaning or replacing them properly.
Damaged Drain Pan
When a drain pan becomes damaged or rusted, it loses its ability to hold the necessary water, leading to leaks. Look at the drain pan to check if cracks or signs of corrosion have developed. If you notice any damage, it is advisable to replace the drain pan so that water does not seep onto the floor.
